The Role  

Proofpoint is seeking a Director, Cybersecurity Strategy to help support our global strategy initiatives. This highly visibility individual contributor role will focus on thought leadership, supporting our global field efforts with customers, partners and prospects, and help us further provide value to both cybersecurity leaders and practitioners. You will tap into your experiences, knowledge, and expertise to help provide actionable guidance to customers on how they can successfully use Proofpoint’s technology to improve their risk posture and build resilient cybersecurity programs. You will support multiple groups within Proofpoint – global field sales, sales engineering, product management, product marketing, as well as support our field and channel marketing efforts. This is a great opportunity to help shape and define the strategy and future direction of Proofpoint. We are looking for an experienced and versatile subject matter expert to evangelize, support and promote the work we are doing at Proofpoint.

Your day-to-day 

• Provide thought leadership to a variety of internal and external constituents
• Be a public-facing spokesperson for Proofpoint – by supporting industry events, as well as Proofpoint sponsored events
• Work with sales and technical sales to support customers throughout North America
• Build rapport, trust and credibility with customers and partners, as they will rely on your expertise and advise on how to plan and move forward with major Cybersecurity programs
• Support field marketing efforts through presentation as trade shows and industry events
• Support channel marketing efforts through helping enable strategic channel partners to convey the value of Proofpoint to their customers and prospects
• Provide key insights and feedback to both Product Management and Product Marketing to help improve Proofpoint products and services

What you bring to the team 

• 10+ years of experience as an IT security leader, industry analyst, or senior security management role as a practitioner who planned and/or implemented major threat protection and information protection programs
• Strong executive level presentation and communication skills. Specifically, experience with public speaking in a variety of settings – medium to large presentations, panel discussions, roundtables, and workshops
• Strong background in a wide range of Cybersecurity including modern threat landscape, AI and ML uses in cybersecurity, and critical cybersecurity programs such as incident response and security awareness/culture
• Knowledge of applications, data, networking fundamentals such as DNS, web and email protocols. Strong knowledge of cloud platforms such as M365 and Google
• Knowledge of current cybersecurity vendor landscape, including major vendors, and their offerings from a competitive perspective
• Must be organized, detail and process oriented
• Must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently or in a team environment
• Ability to travel up to 50%
• Security certifications such as CISSP are strongly preferred
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in cybersecurity

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several U.S. geographic markets, and we pay differently based on those defined markets as set out below. Pay within these ranges varies and depends on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The actual offer will be based on the individual candidate. The range provided may represent a candidate range and may not reflect the full range for an individual tenured employee. This role may be eligible for variable pay and/or equity. SF Bay Area, New York City Metro Area:

Base Pay Range: 177,750.00 - 260,700.00 USD

California (excludes SF Bay Area), Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Washington DC Metro, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Texas, Washington, Virginia, and Alaska:

Base Pay Range: 142,950.00 - 209,660.00 USD

All other cities and states excluding those listed above:

Base Pay Range: 129,750.00 - 190,300.00 USD
