Internship Program at WM

Our Internship Program at WM is a 12-week paid program focused on supporting your education with experiential learning. As a WM Intern, you will interact with and conduct various duties and responsibilities for one or more functional teams to develop new skills and learn new areas of the business. Interns gain practical experience, relevant to their field of study, prior to college graduation.

 

Job Summary: 
Digital - Cybersecurity Strategy and Portfolio Management 

Intern will participate in Cybersecurity Strategy and Portfolio Management processes and tasks. This area of cybersecurity refers to the strategic and systematic approach of overseeing and organizing cybersecurity initiatives and resources. Functions within this group include Project Management, Metrics, Strategic Roadmaps, Audit Support, Contract Reviews, Tabletop Exercises, and Demand Management. 

Interns will participate in efforts across these functions including monthly metric reporting, project management tasks across cybersecurity initiatives, and participate in the redesign of Cybersecurity intranet site. 

Intern will also be introduced to other areas of cybersecurity including: Identity and Access Management;  Governance, Risk and Compliance; and how Cybersecurity is aligned with our business partners including Operational Technology, Sustainability, and Corporate. 

Intern will be working directly with Senior Cybersecurity personnel and managers. 

This position will be located at Houston corporate headquarters with a standard 40-hour workweek. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential duties satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned and may vary by location.

  • Uses problem solving skills to determines problems and understand fundamental parts of the problem.
  • Conducts analysis as directed and prepares and delivers insights and recommendations based on analysis.
  • Synthesizes findings and draws conclusions from analyses and makes oral/written recommendations to supervisor and/or manager.
  • Executes tasks related to functional projects and/or process improvements.
  • Communicates issues and roadblocks related to areas of responsibility.

 

Qualifications: 
Education and Experience:

  • Education: Interns must have a high school diploma or GED (accredited) and be pursuing a bachelor's degree (accredited) in Computer Science. Preferred Completed Course Work Hours: 60.0
  • Strong academic credentials. 
  • Experience: No prior work experience required. 

 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations or Other Requirements:

  • Must be available to participate in the 12-week internship program from start to finish (May 30 – Aug 19, 2024) 
  • Must be available to work 40 hours per week/standard working hours 
  • Must have completed at least one year of college and be enrolled as a college student in the fall of 2024. 

 

Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Required

  • Knowledge of NIST Cybersecurity Framework (CSF) and NIST 800-53v4 
  • Ability to work efficiently and independently while maintaining attention to detail
  • Able to be flexible and adapt to changing situations while remaining positive
  • Ability to work effectively in a diverse, collaborative team environment
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Word)
