Please note this role will work in a hybrid environment. The successful candidate must be located near a Canadian Blood Services site and will be working a mixture of on-site and off-site work based on the parameters for our operations to meet the needs of our donors, our staff and our communities. Currently, employees are expected to have an in-person presence for at least 40% of their work time. This requirement may vary depending upon circumstances.

About the role
 

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Regular Full-Time Security Architect to join our dynamic IT Strategy & Governance team.

The IT Strategy & Governance team is responsible for ensuring that Canadian Blood Service's technology resources are used effectively and align with its overall business goals.


Reporting to the Chief Architect, you will undertake a vital role in formulating the strategy and technical direction to maintain the security of your data, applications, and infrastructure. This will facilitate the continued growth and transformation of your business operations. You will collaborate closely with your Security teams to ensure your infrastructure adheres to the highest standards of information security, as dictated by industry best practices. Your role demands a comprehensive background in security technologies, providing support across a broad spectrum of technologies. This includes solutions developed on traditional platforms as well as those on more modern, “open” technology stacks. Key aspects of your position are to enhance security around cloud-based solutions and harden the security around operational technology supporting your operations.

Formula for success
 

  • Leveraging your collaboration skills, you will collaborate closely with the IT Security team and act as a trusted partner in developing Canadian Blood Service's cyber-security journey, providing architectural support with planned initiatives.
  • Utilizing your experience, you will provide expertise in areas of Zero-Trust Network, Deep network inspection, PAM and Threat identification to support the program. You will also provide expert guidance and advice regarding cloud security, Cyber Defense, Digital & Forensic response and Security Management.
  • Drawing upon your automation and process improvement skills, you will actively uncover and promote opportunities for the automation of IT Security functions and activities.
  • Harnessing your expertise in data security and compliance, you will develop and promote appropriate strategies such as segmentation, isolation, encryption, masking and data lifecycles to protect PII information and confidential data, based on accepted industry frameworks and standards.
  • Leveraging on your strong technical skills to apply best practices around Azure Cloud Infrastructure and utilize your deep understanding of security frameworks (NIST, ISO, COSO, CONIT, CMMI) in implementation. 
  • Utilizing your desire for continuous improvement, you will conduct regular reviews and assessments of existing security architectures to identify gaps and areas for improvement. as well as provide recommendations around security practices and integrations for SaaS, IaaS and PaaS platforms.
  • Ensure that CBS’s security architecture meets or exceeds the requirements of Health Canada and other industry regulators.

 

Desired Education and Skills

 

  • Post-secondary level education in Computer Science, Engineering or an equivalent technical degree in a relevant discipline from a recognized academic institution.
  • Must have one or more of the relevant certifications (e.g., CISSP, CISM, Microsoft Certified Cybersecurity Architect).
  • Proven experience (5+ years) as a Security Architect or in a similar role with strong background in information security architectures.
  • Astute analytical and problem-solving abilities, adept at navigating intricate security challenges and proposing effective remedies.
  • Strong communication skills, capable of conveying complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience in orchestrating incident response and recovery protocols.

What you can expect 
 

  • This role will work in a hybrid environment with requirements to be onsite at a Canadian Blood Services location 40% of the time/2 days of the week.
  • You will work Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week, 7.5 hours per day.  
  • If you are located outside of Ottawa, you may be expected to travel to our office location in Ottawa – 2540 Lancaster Rd, Ottawa ON, quarterly for in-person team meetings when required.
